History

Chiba New Town Chūō Station opened on 19 March 1984 as the terminus of the Housing and Urban Development Corporation's Chiba New Town Line, when the section from Komuro opened. On 1 April 1988 Hokusō Development Railway (now Hokusō Railway) began Class II operations over the line, which became its Hokusō–Kōdan Line. The station became an intermediate stop on 1 April 1995 with the extension to Inzai-Makinohara. On 1 July 2004 the corporate and line names changed to Hokusō Railway and Hokusō Line, and ownership of the station structures passed to Chiba New Town Railway. On 17 July 2010 the Keisei Narita Sky Access opened on the shared tracks and the Access Express began calling; the station was designated HS12. Hokusō handles day-to-day operations.

Notes

Provision was once made for the never-built Narita Shinkansen to pass through Chiba New Town Chūō; the broad cleared corridor immediately north of the station, now partly occupied by the Kita-Chiba Road and solar panels, was preserved for that abandoned line.
