Location

History

Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station occupies tunnels and platforms originally constructed for the never-completed Narita Shinkansen. After the shinkansen project was abandoned in 1986, the infrastructure beneath Terminal 1 was converted for conventional-line use, and the underground station opened on 19 March 1991 jointly serving JR East and Keisei Electric Railway. The earlier Keisei-only Narita Airport Station, about 1 km from the passenger terminal, was renamed Higashi-Narita on the same day. Keisei platforms and concourses were segregated into Main Line and Narita Sky Access sections on 17 July 2010 when Skyliner limited-express services began running over the new Sky Access route, and the station picked up Keisei numbering KS42 on the same date. Platform-edge doors were progressively introduced from 2020.

Notes

Because the Keisei Main Line and the Narita Sky Access Line are two separate routes to the same destinations and are charged at different fares, passengers travelling only on the Keisei Main Line must pass through an additional ticket barrier inside the station before reaching the platforms.
