History
Yamashiro-Aodani Station, located at Ichinobe-Goshima, Jōyō City, Kyoto Prefecture, opened on 13 February 1926 as a temporary stop called Aodani Bairin Kari-teiryūjō between Nagaike and Tamamizu stations on the Nara Line. It was upgraded to a regular station and simultaneously renamed Yamashiro-Aodani on 1 December 1933. Freight handling ended in 1972 and parcel handling ended on 20 October 1984, after which the station was left unstaffed; it passed to JR West at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Automatic ticket gates were introduced on 26 January 1999, ICOCA became usable from 1 November 2003, and station number JR-D14 was assigned on 17 March 2018. An elevated station building with an east-west free passage came into use on 23 July 2022.
Notes
The overhead station building spanning the tracks, brought into use in 2022, was designed with its roof evoking the mountain ridgeline of Aodani and its rows of columns evoking a grove of plum trees; the Aodani plum grove spreads out around the station.
