History

Yamashiro-Taga Station opened on 15 July 1955 as a passenger-only stop on the Japanese National Railways (JNR) Nara Line, inserted between Yamashiro-Aoya and Tamamizu in the town of Ide, Kyoto Prefecture. It was destaffed in October 1984 and passed to JR West with the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. Originally a single platform on a single track, the station gained an overhead station building in April 2000, and a second platform was added in March 2001 to allow trains to pass one another. ICOCA card service began on 1 November 2003, station numbering as JR-D15 was introduced in March 2018, and the section between the station and Tamamizu was double-tracked on 6 December 2020.

Notes

Before the 2000 rebuild, a large rock, shaved away at an angle, sat beside the original single platform, and the road in front of the station had to detour around it.
