History
Takinomiya Station opened on 21 December 1926 as the terminus of the Kotohira Electric Railway, when the section between Ritsurin-kōen and Takinomiya opened. Four months later, on 15 March 1927, the line was extended from this station to Kotohira (now Kotoden-Kotohira), making Takinomiya an intermediate station, and it became a station of the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad's Kotohira Line through a company merger on 1 November 1943. The wooden station building from its 1926 opening is still in use today, and it was certified a "Heritage of Industrial Modernization" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on 6 February 2009. It was the only staffed intermediate station on the Kotohira Line outside Takamatsu City, but it was made unstaffed on 15 December 2023, in an exchange with Ayagawa Station. It is located in Takinomiya, Ayagawa-chō, Ayauta District, Kagawa Prefecture, station number K15.
Notes
As of January 2020, the siding behind platform 1 was mainly used to store train No. 71 (terminating at Takinomiya) on Fridays, and this train set was, as a rule, assigned to train No. 6 on Sundays.
