History
Sugiyama Station opened on 22 January 1924 as a station of the Atsumi Electric Railway. It became a station of the Atsumi Line following the company's merger with Nagoya Railroad on 1 September 1940, and was transferred to Toyohashi Railroad on 1 October 1954, its present operator. Freight handling was discontinued in 1967, and the station was unstaffed in April 1969. It is a ground-level station with two opposed platforms serving two tracks with passing facilities; the former station building has already been removed, but because the Kawaguchi shop in front of the station handles ticket sales on consignment, it is treated as equivalent to a JR simple-consignment station. It is located at Sugiyama-chō, Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, and is used mainly by students and commuters.
