History

Okadome-Kōfuku Station opened newly as a Kuma River Railway Yunomae Line station on 1 October 1989, to coincide with the third-sector conversion of JR Kyushu's Yunomae Line. The station's name comes from the nearby Okadome Kumanoza Shrine, popularly known as "Kōfuku (Happiness) Shrine." It is a ground-level station with one side platform serving one track and a tile-roofed wooden station building, an unstaffed station with a short platform for four cars. A town-run shop stands beside the station building, selling happiness-themed souvenirs and renting bicycles. The postbox in front of the station has been repainted from red to yellow in homage to the film "The Yellow Handkerchief of Happiness."

Notes

It is the only surviving railway station in Japan with "kōfuku" (happiness) in its name, and it serves as a point of access for visits to Okadome Kumanoza Shrine, popularly known as "Kōfuku Shrine."
