Location

History

Namerikawa Station opened on 16 November 1908 in Tatsuno, then part of Hamakazumi village in Nakaniikawa District, when the government railway's Hokuriku Line was extended from Toyama to Uozu, and it became a Hokuriku Main Line station under the line-naming reform of October 1909. The Tateyama Light Railway (later absorbed into Toyama Chihō Railway) opened its own platforms here on 25 June 1913, and the two operators ran the joint station for decades. JR West took over the main station at privatisation on 1 April 1987. An underground passage linking the JR and Toyama Chihō sides opened on 29 June 2001 and the two stations were thereafter operated separately. JR West's section was transferred to the Ainokaze Toyama Railway on 14 March 2015 with the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension to Kanazawa.

Notes

When Namerikawa's footbridge was rebuilt on 25 February 1960, it became the first railway footbridge in Japan to incorporate prestressed concrete in its structural design.
