History

Mizuhashi Station opened as a general station in Iseya, Nishi-Sangō Village, Nakaniikawa District, on 16 November 1908, with the extension of the government railway's Hokuriku Line between Toyama and Uozu stations. It became a station of the Hokuriku Main Line with the 1909 establishment of line names. The sections between this station and Higashi-Toyama Station and between this station and Kamiichigawa Signal Station were double-tracked between 1965 and 1966, freight handling was discontinued in 1972, and parcel handling was discontinued in 1985; the station became a JR West station with the division and privatization of the national railway on 1 April 1987. On 14 March 2015, with the founding of Ainokaze Toyama Railway that accompanied the Hokuriku Shinkansen's extension to Kanazawa, the station passed to that company, and the ICOCA IC card came into service on the 26th of the same month. It is located in Mizuhashi-Iseya, Toyama, Toyama Prefecture, and is a ground-level station with two facing platforms serving two tracks.

Notes

The station building's frame retains its original 1908 structure, and a metal plate reading "Meiji 41" (1908), marking the year of construction, still survives on the wall near the ticket gate. During the Rice Riots of August 1918, an incident occurred in which the loading of brown rice about to be shipped from this station toward Tokyo was obstructed.
