History

Mukuno Station opened on 1 November 1960 as an intermediate stop on the Japanese National Railways Gannichi Line, then under construction inland from Kawanishi in Yamaguchi Prefecture. At privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station was briefly transferred to JR West and then ceded on 25 July 1987 to the third-sector Nishikigawa Railway, which still operates it as part of the Nishikigawa Seiryū Line, 17.7 km from the line's starting point at Kawanishi. The unstaffed stop has no station building, just a single side platform with a roofed waiting space; because of the height of the track bed, the platform and the forecourt both sit noticeably above the road that passes in front of the station. It stands at Naguwa in the Mikawa-machi area of Iwakuni.

Notes

Near the station stands 'Kannon Chaya,' which bills itself as having 'Japan's number one vending machine corner,' and it is well known among vending-machine enthusiasts.
