History

Kowashōzu Station opened on 15 December 1960 with the Japanese National Railways Etsumi-Hoku Line's opening between Echizen-Hanandō and Kadohara, in what is today the city of Fukui in Fukui Prefecture. The station has been unstaffed since opening. It came under JR West with the JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987. It was closed for nearly three years, from 18 July 2004 to 30 June 2007, after torrential rains damaged the tracks; the Ichijōdani–Miyama section that includes the station was the last on the line to reopen, and in the meantime replacement buses called at a stop on the old alignment of National Route 158. The station consists of a single ground-level side platform with only a shelter and no ticket machines.
