History

Ichinami Station opened on 15 December 1960, the day the Japanese National Railways Etsumi-Hoku Line opened between Echizen-Hanandō and Katsuhara, in what is today the city of Fukui in Fukui Prefecture. The station has been unstaffed since opening. It came under JR West with the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR. The station, on the line today branded as the Kuzuryū Line, was closed from 18 July 2004 to 30 June 2007 because of torrential-rain damage to the track — the Ichijōdani–Miyama section that includes it was the last part of the line to reopen — and replacement buses called at the station forecourt in the interim. The station today consists of one ground-level side platform with only a shelter, served by a single bi-directional track.
