History

Miyama Station opened on 15 December 1960 as part of the Japanese National Railways Etsumi-Hoku Line between Echizen-Hanandō and Kadohara. It came under JR West control with the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 and was made unattended in 1992. Torrential rains suspended the whole line on 18 July 2004; services between Miyama and Echizen-Ōno resumed on 11 September 2004, and from then until the Miyama–Ichijōdani section was restored on 30 June 2007, replacement buses for Echizen-Tōgō ran from in front of the station. The original station building, similar to Echizen-Tōgō Station, was later demolished and replaced by a new simplified building combined with the Miyama Tourist Terminal in Fukui City.
