History
Kōda Station serves Saza in Nagasaki Prefecture, about 70.3 km from Arita on the Matsuura Railway's Nishi-Kyūshū Line. It opened on 11 February 1934 as a stop called Kōda on the Sasebo Railway. Nationalization in 1936 moved it to the Railway Ministry and renamed it Hizen-Kōda. Freight handling ended in 1966, and baggage handling ended in 1970, when the station became unstaffed. Japan National Railways' 1987 breakup made it a JR Kyushu Matsuura Line stop; in 1988 the line passed to the third-sector Matsuura Railway as the Nishi-Kyūshū Line, restoring the name Kōda. A 1981 fire destroyed the original building, later replaced by a simple prefabricated shelter. The station now has one ground-level side platform on a single bidirectional track.
Notes
Despite sharing the same pronunciation, "Kōda" is written with three different kanji at three different Japanese stations: this one (神田), one on JR Tokai's Tōkaidō Main Line (幸田), and one on JR Kyushu's Nagasaki Main Line (高田).
