History

Yoshii Station opened on 24 October 1933 in what is now Yoshii-chō Ōwatari, Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture. It was renamed Hizen-Yoshii Station on 18 April 1934. A branch line, the national Sechibaru Line, once diverged from the station before its abolition on 26 December 1971, and freight handling there ended on 1 October 1970. National rail privatization transferred the station to JR Kyushu on 1 April 1987. A year later, on 1 April 1988, it passed to the third-sector Matsuura Railway, reverted to the name Yoshii Station, and became unstaffed. Today it is a ground-level station with two facing platforms and two tracks, offset from one another and linked by a level crossing, serving Matsuura Railway's Nishi-Kyūshū Line.

Notes

The station has appeared as an unstaffed-station feature location on the TV Tokyo travel program Inaka ni Tomarō! (Let's Stay in the Countryside!).
