History

Kawachi-Amami Station opened on 13 April 1923 as "Amami Shako-mae Station" ("in front of the Amami car depot") with the Osaka Railway's opening between Osaka-Tennōji (now Osaka-Abenobashi) and Nunose. It was renamed Kawachi-Amami Station on 1 April 1933. Through the Kansai Express Railway's merger with the Osaka Railway in February 1943 and the wartime consolidation with the Nankai Railway in June 1944, it became a station on the Kintetsu Minami Osaka Line. An up passing track was installed in July 1957 and a down passing track in December 1972, giving it opposed platforms with a through track in the centre. The station building was moved underground in July 1993, and PiTaPa use began in April 2007. Its secondary name is "Hannan University-mae."

Notes

On the Minami Osaka Line it is the sixth-busiest station by ridership, after Osaka-Abenobashi, Fujiidera, Kawachi-Matsubara, Furuichi, and Kashiharajingū-mae, and it has the highest ridership on the line among stations that semi-express trains pass without stopping.
