History

The station first opened its doors on 15 November 1928, the day the Nara Electric Railroad's Kyoto–Momoyama-Gorenmae line began running. Nara Electric Railroad merged into Kintetsu on 1 October 1963, making it a Kintetsu station. A grade-separation project elevated the outbound track on 3 October 1998 and the inbound track on 27 November 1999, and the station began accepting the PiTaPa IC card on 1 April 2007. Today it is a staffed, elevated station with a single island platform serving six-car trains, with ticket gates and concourse on the ground floor and the platform above. It serves the Kintetsu Kyoto Line, about 1.5 kilometers from the Kyoto terminus, with only local trains stopping.

Notes

In 1974, signage at the station was inconsistent: platform name boards mixed two different kanji forms for the character jō, and romanized the station name as both "JUJO" and "JYUJYO" depending on location.
