History

Ichibu Station opened on the Ministry of Railways' Yunomae Line on 30 March 1924. It was inherited by Japanese National Railways in 1949, placed under contracted operation in April 1963, and became unstaffed when baggage handling ended in February 1971. That May, the station building was transferred to Nishiki-machi, which took over consignment of station operations. It became a JR Kyushu station at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and became a Kuma River Railway Yunomae Line station with the third-sector conversion of 1 October 1989. The current simplified station building was completed on 25 November 1995. It is an unstaffed station with one side platform serving one track; it formerly had a train-passing arrangement of two opposed platforms serving two tracks, and traces of the disused old platform remain on the north side today.
