History
Hiketa Station opened on 15 April 1928 as a station of the Railway Ministry's Kōtoku Line. It became an intermediate station when the line was extended to Bansai Station (now Itano Station) on 20 March 1935; freight handling was discontinued in 1972 and baggage handling in 1985, and the station became a JR Shikoku station at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. It became unstaffed all day on 12 March 2022; demolition of the aging station building took place in September 2024, and a new station building incorporating a Higashikagawa City public restroom began service on 28 March 2025. It is located in Hiketa, Higashikagawa City, Kagawa Prefecture, station number T10. Most local trains from the Takamatsu direction turn back at this station, and most of the limited express "Uzushio" services stop here.
Notes
The comment on the station's display panel reads "the station of Sanuki wasanbon sugar and the Doll Festival," and during the Hiketa Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival) period from late February to 3 March, special limited-express stops are also arranged.
