History

Sanuki-Shirotori Station opened on 15 April 1928 as a station of the Railway Ministry's Kōtoku Line. At opening it had one platform and one track. On 15 December 1956, following a local petition, the reading of its name was changed from "Sanuki-Shiratori" to "Sanuki-Shirotori." Freight handling was discontinued on 1 October 1972, and with the discontinuation of baggage handling on 1 February 1984 the station became unstaffed and was placed under simplified contract to Shirotori Town. It became a station of Shikoku Railway Company (JR Shikoku) at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and became unstaffed on 1 October 2010. It is located in Matsubara, Higashikagawa City, Kagawa Prefecture, station number T11. Although it is close to the Higashikagawa City Hall and is the city's principal station, because it is unstaffed, functions such as the reserved-seat ticket machine are handled by the neighboring Sanbonmatsu Station.

Notes

Until around 1975, the station also handled the inbound shipment of raw materials and outbound shipment of products by rail freight, and at its peak more than ten freight-handling staff were assigned there.
