History
Higashi-shinjuku Station opened on 12 December 2000 as a Toei Ōedo Line stop in Shinjuku 7-chōme; under the planned name Nishi-Ōkubo, the design by Manabe Architects was selected by open competition and built on the keywords "light" and "slanting light", staging daylight in the underground space. PASMO acceptance began on 18 March 2007. A second set of platforms for the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line opened on 14 June 2008, stacked on basements five and six to fit beneath Meiji-dōri. On 27 April 2012 the directly connected Shinjuku Eastside Square office tower was completed, and on 30 May 2015 the Fukutoshin platforms were widened from one to two faces by removing the screens that had hidden the express through-tracks.
Notes
When the Fukutoshin Line platforms opened in 2008, the tracks used by non-stop trains were hidden behind walls, so every stopping train berthed at the single usable face of each island platform; the walls came down at the end of May 2015 and the second face of each platform entered service on 30 May.
