History

Shinjuku-nishiguchi Station is a Toei Ōedo Line subway stop in Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku City, Tokyo, numbered E-01 and operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation. It opened on 12 December 2000. The station lies on basement level four and has a single island platform serving two tracks; the north ticket gate leads to exits around the Shinjuku Ōgado crossing, while the south gate leads toward the Odakyu department store area and the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, with which the station shares some entrances. It is effectively a satellite of the main Shinjuku Station interchange, standing to its north-west — its name means "west exit", the side of Shinjuku Station on which its own exits sit — and although it is close to the Ōedo Line's Shinjuku Station, it is nearer still to the Marunouchi Line, the Seibu Shinjuku Line and the Shinjuku bus terminal. It is nonetheless treated as a station separate from the Ōedo and Toei Shinjuku Line platforms at Shinjuku, so fares are not through-calculated for passengers who change between them outside the gates.

Notes

Despite its name, Shinjuku-nishiguchi is actually closer to the Marunouchi, Seibu Shinjuku and bus-terminal entrances than to the JR Shinjuku ticket gates.
