History

Higashi-Menda Station opened on the Yunomae Line on 5 April 1963, operated by Japanese National Railways as an unstaffed, passengers-only station. It was inherited by JR Kyushu at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and became a Kuma River Railway Yunomae Line station (station number 9) with the third-sector conversion of 1 October 1989. In March 1993 a yellow umbrella-shaped object modeled on the petals of the marsh marigold was installed on the platform, and it still doubles as a roof for a bench. Located at Menda, Asagiri-machi, Kuma District, Kumamoto Prefecture, it is an unstaffed station with a short side platform serving one track that accommodates trains of up to four cars.

Notes

On the platform stands a yellow umbrella-shaped object modeled on the petals of the marsh marigold, which serves directly as the roof of a bench.
