History

Kōritsu-Byōin-mae Station opened newly on 1 October 1989, when Kyushu Railway Company's (JR Kyushu) Yunomae Line was converted to the third-sector Kuma River Railway. Its station number is 10. The station's name comes from the Kuma District Public Taragi Hospital, located about 400 meters to the southeast. Located at Taragi, Taragi-machi, Kuma District, Kumamoto Prefecture, it is a ground-level station with one side platform serving one track, with a short platform accommodating trains of up to four cars. It is an unstaffed station with a simplified station building and waiting room; a public telephone is on the platform, but there is no restroom. The surrounding area is farmland, with the settlement of Furu-Taragi nearby, and the Kamikuma Fire Department's Kamikuma Fire Station and the Taragi Police Station are also close by. This station, too, is one opened independently by the Kuma River Railway that did not exist in the JR era.

Notes

The Kuma District Public Taragi Hospital, for which the station is named, lies about 400 meters southeast of the station, and the station was newly built at the time of the 1989 Kuma River Railway conversion to serve as the hospital's nearest station.
