Location
History
Gorō Station opened on 14 February 1918 as an intermediate station when the Ehime Railway opened its line from Nagahamachō Station (now Iyo-Nagahama Station) to Ōzu Station (now Iyo-Ōzu Station). It was nationalized on 1 October 1933, becoming the Ehime Line, and with the regauging to 1,067 mm in October 1935 it became a station on the Yosan Main Line. At the same time the Uchiko Line, running from Wakamiya Signal Station to Uchiko Station, came to branch off at this station, making Gorō a transfer station as well. With the opening of the new Yosan Line route on 3 March 1986, the Gorō–Niiya section of the Uchiko Line was abolished and the station ceased to be a transfer point; it was inherited by JR Shikoku at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways in April 1987.
Notes
In the 1970s, when singer Gorō Noguchi was at the peak of his popularity as an idol, coverage in magazines and on radio caused a sharp rise in fans visiting this station, and platform and boarding tickets sold briskly. In fiscal 1975 about 15,500 platform tickets were sold over the year.
