History

Asukayama Station (SA 17) is a Toden Arakawa Line tram stop in Takinogawa 1-chōme, Kita-ku, Tokyo. It opened on 20 August 1911 as Asukayama-ue, the starting point of the Ōji Electric Tramway's first section, which ran between Asukayama-ue and Ōtsuka (today Ōtsuka-eki-mae). It was renamed Asukayama (date unrecorded), and on 17 April 1915 the line was extended to Ōji (today Ōji-ekimae). On 15 April 1923 a Tokyo City Tramway Asukayama Line connected the stop to Komagome-eki-mae. Tokyo City's purchase of the Ōji Electric Tramway on 1 February 1942 reorganised the line as the Tokyo City Tramway's Takinogawa Line (today the Arakawa Line); the line was suspended in 1944 and resumed on 10 July 1946. On 1 December 1949 the Asukayama Line and Takinogawa Line were connected. The Tokyo trolleybus stop at Asukayama opened on 12 January 1957 and closed on 31 March 1968. The Asukayama Line was abolished on 18 March 1971, leaving only the Takinogawa Line.

Notes

From 12 January 1957 until 31 March 1968 — just over eleven years — Asukayama served both the Toden tram and a Tokyo metropolitan trolleybus route. With the trolleybus abolished in 1968 and the Asukayama Line closed in 1971, the two routes added after the original tramway were gone and the stop reverted to serving the Takinogawa Line alone.
