History
Yunomae Station opened on 30 March 1924 as the terminus of the Ministry of Railways' Yunomae Line. It became a Japanese National Railways station in 1949, then a JR Kyushu station at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and a Kuma River Railway Yunomae Line station (station number 14) with the third-sector conversion of 1 October 1989. It became unstaffed in October 2010 but was staffed again from April 2011. Its main station building was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property on 19 December 2014. It is located in Yunomae-machi, Kuma District, Kumamoto Prefecture. In 1970 a freight car being shunted in the station yard ran out of control and collided with a railcar on the main line, an accident known as the Yunomae Line Taragi–Higashi-Menda train collision.
Notes
The station's wooden main building was registered as a national Tangible Cultural Property in 2014.
