History
Yukaba Station opened on 1 April 1971 in Yukaba, Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, as Japanese National Railways' temporary halt 'Yukaba Kari-jōkōjō.' It was taken over by West Japan Railway Company (JR West) at the 1 April 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways and simultaneously upgraded to a full station; on 25 July of the same year the Gannichi Line was transferred to the third-sector Nishikigawa Railway, and the station came under that company. It is an unstaffed, ground-level station (halt) on the Nishikigawa Seiryū Line with a single side platform serving one track; it has no station building, only a roofed waiting shelter on the platform. The area around the station is a settlement along the Nishiki River, known as the center where the local traditional performing art 'Iwakuni Yukaba no Kanmai' is passed down.
Notes
West of the station lies a gravel bank of the Nishiki River where 'Iwakuni Yukaba no Kanmai' is dedicated during the once-every-seven-years 'Ganmai' rite. The Iwakuni-municipal 'Iwakuni Yukaba no Kanmai Denshōkan' (transmission hall) is also within walking distance of the station and forms the center of this Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of the region.
