History

Yamanota Station is a halt on the Matsuura Railway Nishi-Kyūshū Line in Kasuga-chō, Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture. An earlier "Yamanota" stop on the private Sasebo Railway opened on 7 October 1920 when the line between Hidari-ishi and Kami-Sasebo was inaugurated; it was nationalised in 1936 as part of the Matsuura Line but lost in the regauging works of 30 August 1943. The current Matsuura Railway station opened on 10 March 1990, well after the line had passed to the third-sector Matsuura Railway in 1988. The unstaffed station has a single side platform, and its station building, which doubles as the waiting room, is designed in the style of a clock tower.
