History

Yakuriguchi Station opened on 1 September 1961 as an added stop on Japanese National Railways' Kōtoku Line. In the Japanese National Railways era many trains, including local services, passed through without stopping. The station transferred to JR Shikoku at the 1 April 1987 privatisation and received station number T21. On 14 March 1998, as part of Kōtoku Line speed-up works, the station was relocated some 300 m further from Takamatsu and a passing loop installed, giving it two opposed side platforms in place of the original single platform. The unstaffed station sits 12.3 km from Takamatsu; only local services call. Each platform has a shelter and a small ticket-vending kiosk, with no direct connection between the two platforms.

Notes

Yakuriguchi's name refers to Yakuri-ji, the 85th temple of the Shikoku pilgrimage, which lies about 2 km from the station.
