History
Yagyū-bashi Station opened on 1 May 1925 as Matsuyama Station on the Atsumi Electric Railway. It was renamed Yagyū-bashi Station on 1 June 1925, just before the connecting tramway branch — the Yagyū-bashi Line of Toyohashi Electric Tramway, a predecessor of the Toyohashi Railroad — opened on 14 July 1925. The 1 September 1940 merger with Nagoya Railway (Meitetsu) brought the Atsumi Electric Railway's stations under that company, and on 1 October 1954 the Toyohashi Railroad took over the stations of the Atsumi Line. The connecting tramway branch was abolished on 7 March 1976, and manaca IC service began on 11 February 2011 with the installation of simplified IC fare gates.
Notes
A track from Hanada Station — a freight station, now Hanada Signal Box — once reached as far as the north side of Yagyū-bashi, and the Toyohashi Railroad's head office, a wooden two-storey building, stood next to the station. The station is staffed only between 07:30 and 09:00; outside those hours it operates unattended.
