History
Waki Station is a relatively new addition to the Sanyō Main Line, opened on 15 March 2008 between Ōtake and Iwakuni after a seventeen-year campaign by the town of Waki, which the line had crossed for barely a kilometre without stopping. The town and other bodies concerned paid for the station's construction as a petition station, and the parts of the complex owned by Waki Town — the station office and the free passageway — form the Waki Station Exchange Plaza, run under the designated-manager system. The southern 25 metres of the platform extend across the municipal boundary into the city of Iwakuni. The station is staffed as a simplified-commission (kan'i itaku) station under the management of Iwakuni Station.
Notes
The southernmost 25 metres of the platform reach across the municipal boundary into the city of Iwakuni; Waki is Yamaguchi Prefecture's easternmost station.
