History

Ōtake Station was established when the Sanyō Railway's line was extended between Hiroshima and Tokuyama stations on 25 September 1897, beginning passenger and freight handling. It became a state-run railway station with the nationalization of the Sanyō Railway on 1 December 1906, and became part of the Sanyō Main Line on 12 October 1909. On 5 December 1947, an imperial train ran between this station and Miyajimaguchi Station during Emperor Shōwa's postwar tour. With the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, it became a station of both West Japan Railway Company (JR West) and Japan Freight Railway Company (JR Freight). On 19 February 2023 the elevated station building came into use, along with the opening of an east exit and a free passage. It is located in Shinmachi 1-chōme, Ōtake City, Hiroshima Prefecture, station number JR-R14, and is the westernmost and southernmost station in Hiroshima Prefecture.

Notes

It is simultaneously the westernmost and southernmost station in Hiroshima Prefecture, the only station in the prefecture to hold both extremes at once.
