History

Tsumazaki Station, located at Hamada, Ōaza Higashi-Sue, Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is a station on JR West's Onoda Line, established on 16 May 1929 when the Ube Electric Railway opened its line between Okinoyama-Kyūkō (later Ube-kō) Station, Inō stop, Suzumeda stop, and Shin-Okiyama Station. The Ube Electric Railway merged into the Ube Railway on 29 November 1941, making it a station of that company, and it became a station on the state railway's Ube West Line upon the Ube Railway's nationalization on 1 May 1943. When the Ube West Line was renamed the Onoda Line on 1 February 1948, the station came under it. Freight handling ended on 1 December 1955, and parcel handling ended on 8 March 1983, when the station became unstaffed (placed under contracted, simplified operation). It passed to West Japan Railway Company at the 1 April 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways.
