History

Tsugaru-Onoe Station was opened on 1 July 1927, when the Kōnan Railway's Kōnan Line first opened. It became an intermediate station when the section between this station and Kōnan-Kuroishi Station opened on 1 July 1950; freight handling ended on 1 July 1979, and a newly built station building followed on 7 September of that year. It moved to contracted staffing on 10 September 1980, and was selected in 2002 as one of the "100 Notable Stations of Tōhoku." The Kōnan consumers' co-operative's Onoe branch, which had been attached to the station building, closed on 31 March 2007. A contracted station attendant is still posted on weekdays from 7 to 11 a.m., and hard-format (cardboard) tickets are still sold there.

Notes

The station was selected in 2002 as one of the "100 Notable Stations of Tōhoku" as "a shrine-style station building modeled after Saruka Shrine, said to have been founded by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro."
