History
Tokiwa Station is a tram stop on Keifuku Electric Railroad's Randen Kitano Line in Ukyo-ku, Kyoto. It opened on 10 March 1926, when the Kyoto Dento-operated Arashiyama Dentetsu extended the line from Takaoguchi (now Utano) Station to Katabiranotsuji. Ownership of the line transferred to Keifuku Electric Railroad by corporate succession on 2 March 1942. The place name Tokiwa is said to derive from Minamoto no Tokiwa, who built a villa here. Numbered B2, the station sits at ground level with two facing side platforms, and double track continues toward neighboring Narutaki. One platform sends trams toward Katabiranotsuji, where riders can transfer to the Arashiyama Line, and the other toward Kitano-Hakubaicho.
Notes
The station's photo panel, titled "Randen Kaiwai-kan" and captioned "Tokiwa," in fact pictures a tram running between Narutaki and Utano stations rather than Tokiwa itself.
