Location
History
Tobu Nikko Station opened on 1 October 1929 as the terminus of Tobu's Nikko Line. The neighbouring Tōbu-Ekimae stop on the Tobu Nikko Tramway was closed on 25 February 1968, and the present alpine-style station building — with its distinctive triangular gabled roof — was completed on 1 October 1979 in commemoration of the station's 50th anniversary. The station was named one of the Kanto Region's 100 Best Stations in 2000 for its role as the gateway to the Nikko World Heritage Site. Station numbering (TN 25) was applied on 17 March 2012, and renovation of the waiting room and other station facilities was completed on 15 July 2023 to coincide with the launch of the Spacia X limited express service.
Notes
Preserved on display in the station forecourt is car No. 109 of the Type 100 trams that once worked the Tobu Nikko Tramway, later operated as car No. 3010 of the Okayama Electric Tramway.
