History

Tenwa Station opened on 1 May 1963 as a Japanese National Railways station newly established on the Akō Line between Banshū-Akō and Bizen-Fukukawa, in what is now Akō, Hyōgo Prefecture. From the start it handled only passengers, was unstaffed, and had been requested by local residents. With the 1987 privatisation of JNR the station came under JR West. ICOCA-only IC ticket gates were installed on 15 September 2018. The station has a single ground-level side platform serving one bidirectional track; there is no station building, and access is directly onto the platform. Although the station's facilities are managed by JR West's Kinki headquarters, the trains that call here belong to the Chūgoku headquarters' network.

Notes

A 2012 NHK drama broadcast used the station as the filming location for a sendoff scene, with a special three-car 115-series train running in classic Shonan colours.
