History

Tatsue Station opened on 15 December 1916 as an intermediate stop on the privately operated Anan Railway between Chūden and Hanoura, in what is now Tatsue-chō Kabuki, Komatsushima, Tokushima Prefecture. On 1 July 1936 the Chūden–Hanoura segment of the Anan Railway, including Tatsue, was nationalised and the station passed to Japanese Government Railways as part of the Mugi Line. Freight ended in 1970 and parcels in 1972, when the station was destaffed. JR Shikoku took over at the 1987 privatisation. The small original station building remained in use until 22 December 2017, when a much simpler replacement entered service. Tatsue, which carries station number M08, is the nearest station to Tatsue-ji, the 19th of the 88 temples of the Shikoku pilgrimage.

Notes

Tatsue is the nearest railway station to Tatsue-ji, the 19th of the 88 temples of the Shikoku pilgrimage, and continues to see steady pilgrim traffic.
