History

Hanoura Station opened on 15 December 1916 as a station on the Anan Railway. On 27 March 1936, the Japanese National Railways Mugi Line opened between this station and Kuwano Station, making it a connecting station with the Anan Railway, and with the Anan Railway's nationalization on 1 July of the same year the stations were unified into a single JNR station, while passenger service on the Furushō branch line was simultaneously discontinued. The freight branch line (the Furushō branch) was fully abolished on 1 April 1961, and freight handling ended in 1973 and parcel handling in 1984. It passed to JR Shikoku at the 1 April 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways and was assigned station number M09. It became unstaffed all day on 16 March 2024.

Notes

Until 1 April 1961, a freight branch line of the Mugi Line (the Furushō branch line) diverged from this station.
