History
Takinochaya Station opened on 12 April 1917 with the Hyōgo Electric Tramway's extension between Shioya (now Sanyo-Shioya) and Akashi (the first). It was merged into Ujigawa Electric in 1927, and on 10 December 1932 the station was relocated from street-running track along the coast to dedicated track on the mountain side. It became a station of Sanyo Electric Railway in 1933 when Ujigawa Electric's railway division was spun off, and its station building was rebuilt over the tracks on 13 July 1969. It was temporarily closed by the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, but reopened on 30 January of that year when service resumed between this station and Kasumigaoka, becoming a temporary turnback station for limited expresses from Himeji. Barrier-free renovation work was completed in spring 2011.
Notes
The station's name derives from a waterfall that has long stood to the west of the station, said to be the origin of the place name "Tarumi" used in the Man'yoshu poem by Prince Shiki that begins "Iwabashiru tarumi no ue no sawarabi no..." ("the young bracken above the cascade that rushes over the rocks...").
