History
Takaoka Station of Manyosen is the terminus and starting point of the Takaoka Kidō Line, located within the Ainokaze Toyama Railway / JR West Takaoka Station complex in Shimosekimachi, Takaoka, Toyama. The station building was rebuilt in 1966 as a community-funded "public station" (民衆駅); Manyosen's tram-stop platforms are on the ground floor of the Curun TAKAOKA station building, on the north (Kojōkōen) side. Manyosen and predecessor operators have served the location since 10 April 1948, when the Toyama Chihō Railway opened the Chitetsu-Takaoka–Fushiki-kō section of its Takaoka Kidō Line. Under successive operators — Kaetsunō Railway from 1 April 1959, Manyosen from 1 April 2002 — the tram station has remained the starting point of the Manyōsen system, signed to passengers simply as "Manyōsen".
Notes
The 1966 Takaoka Station was one of the postwar "public stations" (民衆駅), planned and promoted by the city of Takaoka — its three above-ground floors housed 63 shops selling local specialities on the 2F and a restaurant arcade on the 3F, and its basement held 28 food shops and tearooms. The "Takaoka Station Building" and the Takaoka Ekimae underground shopping street opened later, in December 1969.
