History

Takamatsu Station opened on 24 April 1898 with the simultaneous opening of the Nanao Railway between its Tsubata provisional halt (predecessor of Hon-Tsubata Station) and Yada-shin (later Nanao-kō). The Nanao Railway was nationalised on 1 July 1907 and the line was redesignated as the Nanao Line in October 1909. Freight handling ended in 1971 and parcel handling in 1984. It passed to JR West at privatisation on 1 April 1987. Formerly a commission-operated station, it became fully unstaffed on 13 March 2021, the same day ICOCA became usable.

Notes

Because the JR Shikoku Yosan and Kōtoku Lines also have a Takamatsu Station — in Kagawa Prefecture — tickets from this Takamatsu are stamped "(七) 高松" identifying the Nanao Line, and ICOCA usage history is recorded as "高松七".
