History

Menden Station opened on 1 May 1950 as a passenger and small-parcel stop inserted between Takamatsu and Hōdatsu on the Japanese National Railways Nanao Line in what is now the town of Hōdatsushimizu. It was destaffed on 15 March 1972 when parcel handling was discontinued. With the breakup of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. ICOCA acceptance began on 13 March 2021. The ticket-vending machine was withdrawn on 30 September 2024. The station retains the Nanao Line's only island platform with two tracks, allowing trains to pass one another.
