History

The station opened on 20 December 1925 as Ise-Kambe Station on the Ise Railway's Kambe Branch Line. The operator became the Ise Electric Railway in 1926; the branch then passed by merger to the Sangū Express Electric Railway as its Ise-Kambe Line on 15 September 1936, and to the Kansai Express Railway on 15 March 1941, when it was renamed the Kambe Line. The wartime merger of 1 June 1944 brought the station under Kintetsu. On 8 April 1963 the line was extended to Hiratachō, renamed the Suzuka Line, and the station took its current name reflecting the city of Suzuka, Mie Prefecture. A station building was rebuilt in July 1967, PiTaPa came into service on 1 April 2007, and in July 2015 the in-station toilets were removed in favour of an attached FamilyMart concession.

Notes

Although Suzuka City has a dispersed urban structure, it is this station, the closest to the city hall, that carries the city's name on the Kintetsu network.
