History

Shirasawa Station was opened on 31 October 1963 in the Shirasawa-Nishi neighbourhood of Makurazaki, on the day JNR extended the Ibusuki Line south from Nishi-Ei to Makurazaki and renamed it the Ibusuki Makurazaki Line. It started out as an unstaffed passenger stop and has never had a station building, only a single side platform entered directly from outside. JR Kyushu took over the stop at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Nearby, on the former Makurazaki Airport site, are a prefectural disaster-prevention heliport and a solar power plant.
