History

Shintomicho Station is a tram stop on Toyama Chihō Railway's Toyama Tram Line branch in Toyama City, on street-shared track. It opened on 1 September 1913 as Jinzūchō Station on the Toyama Electric Tramway, passed to city operation on 1 July 1920, and moved to its present site around 1934 when the Sakurabashi–Toyama-Ekimae–Sōgawa route changed. A 1 January 1943 transfer made it a Toyama Chihō Railway stop. The Toyama air raid closed it on 2 August 1945; the Toyama-Ekimae–Hatagomachi section reopened on 15 March 1949, and the stop was renamed Shintomicho on 1 May 1962. Two staggered side platforms flank an intersection, gaining a ramp and shelter in March 2016. Restaurants and hotels cluster here, busiest Friday and Saturday nights.

Notes

The branch's junction point sits between Shintomicho and Dentetsu-Toyama-Eki/Esuta-mae, but every car in today's timetable instead takes the separate connecting line to the Toyama-Eki stop, so that original branch segment currently carries no scheduled service at all.
