History

Shin-okachimachi Station is an underground interchange in Taitō, Tokyo, jointly served by the Toei Ōedo Line (E-10) and the Tsukuba Express (TX02). The Ōedo Line platform opened on 12 December 2000 when the line completed its loop; the Tsukuba Express platform followed on 24 August 2005, turning the stop into a two-operator transfer. During planning both stations carried the working name "Motoasakusa". The Tsukuba Express platform sits roughly 30 metres below street level, the second-deepest on its line. Ōedo Line ridership initially trailed forecasts but climbed sharply after the station became a transfer point in 2005, passing 30,000 daily passengers in fiscal 2008 and 50,000 by fiscal 2016.

Notes

Although the Tsukuba Express platform carries its own station code, the two lines share an out-of-gate concourse and street entrances, all of which are managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation — including the A2 and A4 entrances, which are owned by the Tsukuba Express operator.
