History
Shimizuura Station opened on 15 December 1938 on the Kisei West Line, between what are now Kainan and Kamogō stations. Trains later ceased to call there without any formal notice of suspension or closure, and service resumed on 1 October 1952. On 15 July 1959 the through Kisei Main Line was completed and the station became part of it, and on 1 September 1961 the station was relocated 400 metres towards Wakayama. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. Located in Kainan city, Wakayama Prefecture, it is one of three Kinokuni-line stations whose name is known as difficult to read.
Notes
Together with Asso and Haya, Shimizuura is one of three stations on the Kinokuni Line whose Japanese name is widely cited as a difficult read.
