Location

History

Shijōnawate Station opened on 22 August 1895 as the terminus of the Naniwa Railway's line from Katamachi; that route is today JR West's Katamachi Line, branded the Gakkentoshi Line. The station has two ground-level island platforms serving four tracks, connected by an elevated station building, and is a directly staffed station that also manages the neighbouring stations on its section of the line; its Midori-no-Madoguchi reservation office closed on 31 May 2024 and was replaced the next day by a Midori-no-Kenbaiki-Plus machine. Despite the name, the station is not located in Shijōnawate City but just across the municipal boundary in Daitō, Osaka Prefecture. Station numbering JR-H34 was added on 17 March 2018. It is 32.0 km from the Katamachi Line's starting point at Kizu.

Notes

Although the station bears the name Shijōnawate, it actually stands just across the boundary on the Daitō side, outside Shijōnawate City; JTB's timetable route maps nevertheless list it as the representative station for Shijōnawate, and it draws passengers from both cities.
